Under 10s Match Report

St. Edmunds vs EARLS COLNE U10s

Result 2-2

Date: Sunday 25th November 2007

Chilly but dry morning in Colchester as the Earls Colne boys gathered on the huge sports field at Sir Charles Lucas Arts Collage.

The first half saw Colne dominate all area of the field and take the play to St. Edmunds. This pressure resulted in a great reflex goal by Charlie, who is maturing well as a player this season. More chances and near misses came to Reed, Tom and Charlie but against the run of play St Edmunds equalised.

It began to become obvious that several of the St Edmunds reserve players were encroaching on to the pitch in full kit and with footballs at their feet. The St. Edmunds coach seemed oblivious to this and it was left to Colne's coach to request that they move back and put tops on over their kit. His requests were largely ignored.

The second half saw St Edmunds take the lead after 15 minutes of play due to a defensive slip up. But to our boys credit, they did not once doubt that they were the better team and this was encapsulated in Toms equaliser, which he worked up the pitch, weaving past several challenges, to score.

The last incident of the match came when the referee ordered off the pitch a St Edmunds reserve player who had stray on by 15 feet or more. Come on; we all know the rules.

A disciplined and skilful performance by Colne.
