EARLS COLNE U10s vs Bures United
Result 2-3.
Date: Sunday 28th October 2007
It was a gray and windy afternoon at Earls Colne Rec. but hopes burned brightly for a good result against Bures as we had already beaten them last month.
Things, unfortunately got of to a bad start when, in our goal area, a fumbled ball and a missed opportunity to clear, led to Bures getting an early goal.
Earls Colne battled well and came close to pulling things back, but Bures strong defending kept us out. Bures were also quick on the break and they caught Colne out on several occasions by getting behind our defense. It was from one of these breaks that Bures scored their second just a few minutes before the half time whistle.
Allan was quick to rally Earls Colne's flagging moral with a rousing half time talk. And in truth, the team had played well, with good passing and using the wings to good effect. Surely it wouldn't be long before things changed in our favor.
The second half saw a a much more determined effort by our boys and soon Tom scored a 'bril' diagonal goal. Five minutes later, and after a good period of possession, James scored from a reflex shot in the goal mouth....This was more like IT!
Then the chances started to come thick and fast for us with the ball hitting the uprights on two occasions. But football can sometimes be unfair and that afternoon she proved it. From a promising corner kick situation for us, Bures intercepted our ball and, although it was reported to have gone over the side line, they made us pay with a quick burst up the wing and a cross over to our undefended goal were it found several eager Bures player lining up to knock it home, which they did. That's how things finished 2-3 to Bures
Bad luck boys, you deserved a better result than that. But take heart from you battling spirit and growing skillfulness. Oh! and listen to Allan and keep to your positions.
