Earl Colne Under 10s vs St Edmunds
Result 2-2.
Date: Sunday 7th October 2007
Sundays saw the best performances of the team so far, with exciting and skillful football being shown by all players involved.
The match kicked of at about 2.10pm on a fine afternoon with several new faces in the EC U10s squad. St Edmunds has a reputation as a quality side and that was evident from the start. But after absorbing some periods of pressure the EC boys started to win much of the midfield battles in the first half resulting in a 'cheeky' Charlie knock-in off the St Edmunds' goalkeeper for our first goal. A few minutes later, Tom who bashed in our second with power to spare. Several other chances presented themselves, but good St Edmunds keeping and defending kept it 2-0 at the sound of the rather ineffectual whistle.
The St Edmunds' coach must have had some choice words with his squad, because it was a different side that took the field in the second half, and we were under pressure from the start which resulted in a goal for the visitors. We started to get back in the game when we were awarded a penalty. Tom stepped up to take it and all the EC supporters held their breath. Unluckily the keeper guessed right and it remained 2-1. Now the game became full blooded end-to-end stuff, with dozens of chances and good defending on both sides. But, right at the end of what seemed a very long half, with some of our boys looking exhausted, St Edmunds got the equalizer.
A good gutsy performance, well done!
