Under 11s Match Report

Sunday 25 November

Long Melford and Earls Colne U11

The match was won and lost by lack of shape, communication and passing by Earls Colne. On the other hand Long Melford were organised, disciplined and masters of passing and moving.

The game took off at a reasonable pace with both teams looking to work hard, but we regularly chased the ball, losing our shape and leaving areas vulnerable to attack. Long Melford passed with great accuracy into these open spaces and raced through to score.

Brandon as usual did his best but after 5 goals his depression started to show. We did miss Sean at the back.

Individuals showed their ability on the ball, Alex C making some good tackles and Alex Hanks trying some through balls to try and use Jordan's pace up front.

Half time and a score of 6-0.

The team talk was hold your shape and positions and really get stuck into Melford. Brandon lift your head and weeble!

The second half seemed a little better with Brandon back on form, William clearing the ball from the goal line and Jacob making a number of interceptions and clearing the ball. Harry and Kieran A often showed their ability and skill on the ball but needed to pass quicker to maximise our chances. Everyone else played a valued part but I'm afraid we had too many individuals and not enough team.

Final score 10-0

The Long Melford manager said we have the skill and ability on the ball, good footballers but lack shape and do not look to pass often enough. This has been said by other managers so we really must start paying attention.

So lads lets make the most of your skill:

keep your shape and position

talk to one another

pass

pass

and pass again.
