EC U10s 2 – Colchester Athletic Blues 1

Scorer
Reed Heaney 2

Was this the same team as the last 2 games ? The names were the same but what a difference. There was running off the ball, commitment in tackles and a will to win. We started well with a long ball to Reed who finished, as usual when he’s close to goal, superbly. Confidence was high and some good runs by Reed and Ben up front could, with a bit more luck, have led to some reward. Aidan in defence was proving himself with some good commited tackles. Our defence of Louis, Aidan and James kept a good passing side out time after time with some last minute tackles and Marley, in goal, made 2 excellent saves which looked like certain goals. Mention must be made to Daniel who despite not getting on the score sheet ran his socks off, made some excellent runs and helped out in defence. The 2nd half saw Kane, Jack G and Ryan come on. Kane’s pace and left foot gave us extra width and options while Jack’s strong kicking kept us out of trouble several times. Ryan went in goal and drew amazed gasps from the opposing manager who thought his team must surely score this time or this time or this time but no, the defence and Ryan kept them out. Mean while Kane, Ben , Jack G and Daniel were playing some good football to move our attack up but we lacked the final finish. With about 10 mins to go and at 1-1 Reed and Louis came back on to help tired legs . Very soon after Aidan made another crucial tackle and managed to flick the ball through to Reed whose strength carried him round the defender and with a good right foot strike found the back of the net. Very happy players and fans! With only a few minutes left Athletic couldn’t equalise. As the final whistle went the joy on the boys faces at their first proper win was a great sight. Colchester Athletic were a very good side who passed the ball extremely well so all the boys should be rightly proud of a fantasic first win. Next week the team eagerly awaits the return of F.A. trained supercoach Kev Heaney. The future looks bright!
