It was freezing. We started well. It was freezing. Louis lungs froze. I felt we were nudging it. It snowed. The wind blew. Josh played his first game. It was freezing.
No offence readers, but I have more tasks than Asterisk this fine winters Sunday, and so I will be brief. The stuffing was knocked out of us by four key decisions. A free kick which they dispatched with style following a push that I truly did not see. A corner from Luke that floated in over a bunch of players that was disallowed for a push that I did not see, and to be fair nor did the BD boss. A handball that took place in the box but only a free kick was given, and Louis being upended in the box but no penalty. I moaned and was duly chastised, as the RESPECT campaign demands.
Having said all that, once the first two decisions went against us we were poor. Second to the ball, slow to react, SILENT throughout, weak in the challenge, poor control. Not all the players, but too many today for our usual dependables to patch up the gaps. Also, their keeper was on fine form and kept out two cracking free kicks and at least two shots from Joe. Poor defending was responsible for three of their strikes which is always a shame.
Harry LA got his second in two games with a well taken side foot that went high into the corner, and for that and his secure play in the back he was man of the match. I would encourage us all to follow his example today and take a touch.
Josh did well considering the conditions and the fact that he is new to the team. Welcome to the topsy turvy world of Earls Colne football.
Thanks to Kevin for running the line and to Val for the snacks. A particular thanks to Graham of Boadicea always a very convivial host. I greatly appreciated the encouraging words that he spoke at the end to the lumps of ice that were once young footballers and their parents.
