EC U13s 1 – Harwich and Parkeston 3
(L.Tzanos)

Just a quick report this week.

Louis was disappointed to miss his first match ever, but then he shouldn’t go round standing on sharp objects.

So a slightly under powered team faced H&P, a side one needs to be full powered against if going to get a result. It was wet and horrible, and the barrage of shouting from the opposing touchline suggested the FA campaign of Respect has a little way to go.

Basically we did well. We certainly lost the territory stats, and our defending was desperate at times, but we stood up to the physical challenge and when we strung a few passes together we caused them some problems. At half time it was one all, Luke latching on to a great through ball from Cameron to lift the ball over the keeper.

The second half was much of the same, and I was hopeful that luck might nick us the lead, but the H&P pressure continued and it was their luck that surfaced out of the mud. Harry was adjudged to have handled the ball, which I felt was harsh, considering the conditions and the fact that the ball hit his chest. The subsequent penalty was neatly finished, and ten minutes later a long throw in caught our defence strangely static, and as if in slow motion the ball made its way to their striker who passed the ball across the goal for a simple finish. A real shame because up to then our defending had been pretty impressive.

We didn’t deserve to win but I was proud of the lads who worked like bankers in a recession.

Man of the match was Luke – he was a constant problem and despite limited service kept chasing every ball all morning. Patrick was a close second.

Thanks to Kevin and Neil for the goals, Kevin for the line, Val for snacks and Cathy for the kit – a rotten week to get that job.
