Sunday 22nd February
Halstead Town 4 – Earls Colne 2
(Harry C, Jake)

The last encounter was a classic. Today’s was a good game, but our ability to mimic sieves allowed the game to fizzle out in the last ten minutes.

No offence folks but I am very busy, so this will be brief.

First two minutes –Jake misfires, we fail to clear and Tom is left with no chance. We regroup and start to play some good football. Joe looks hungry on the left, the midfield is battling away and we are slowly edging our noses ahead. We earn a free kick and Jake atones for his previous error with a long low drive into the corner – game on. Then we are victims of an unseen handball which results in their second.

Halftime and the changes – I take too many subs but I am trying to give everyone a game whilst remaining competitive.

Harry LA (a sub despite scoring in his last three games) immediately gives us some pace up front and causes them problems. Jake’s doodlebug dropkicks rain in on Halstead who struggle. Harry bursts through and is tackled from behind for a penalty – given by a very fair linesman wearing Halstead colours. Harry C steps up with confidence and game on again.

We then tire, and give two poor goals away. Halstead push three up front and we suddenly look vunerable. Indecision and poor decision making causes the first, and more weak defending at a corner seals the game. Very frustrating. I thought that we deserved more, but not when we continue to give goals away – our record in this respect is very poor.

Good performances from Harry C, Harry LA, Josh, and Calum in particular. MOTM goes to James, his second strong performance in a row – fully deserved. A shame he couldn’t go back to the Ramsey on Monday with some points pinched from our neighbours.

Good game – good spirit all round.

Thanks to James for the line and Val for snacks.
