I will start at the end. In the last fifteen minutes or so LM began to change the nature of the match, which up to then had been pretty docile. I was concerned that Louis was going to end up back on crutches, and I became too vocal, and this I should not have done.
As for the rest of the match, we were in total control. The only odd thing was our scoring in that we missed numerous chances, yet bundled in goals that should have never gone in, mainly due to LMs huge keeper, who had a fine game. In the first half Tom hardly had anything to do, and it was only when I made a total of eight subs in the second half that LM were given a way back. Our passing and movement were excellent, however we again seemed to lack that scoring knack we are the Andy Coles of the B league, in that we need five chances before we score one.
Our first goal came courtesy of the mud and a cruel deflection, the second after Louis had been flattened in the box (heard that before?). Harry C stepped up for the penalty, but placed it too near the keeper, who was unfortunate to see it bounce straight back to Harry who finished. In the second half Cameron had been told to be on the shoulder of the last defender as I felt we were not getting enough players in the box within minutes he did just that and was able to bundle the ball over following a cross from Luke. Our only goal of worth came as LM had begun to get more of a grip on the game. It was sweet to watch Louis run from the half way line, evade three questionable tackles and numerous fair ones, to pass the ball to Cameron who finished neatly.
LMs first goal was well taken, following a more determined approach in midfield, but the second was gift wrapped for them following a lapse in concentration at the back.
After that came the red mist, which really spoilt my day. We have been in the situation of losing every match like them, so I have some sympathy with bottom of the league Long Melford, but I cant recall us playing in that manner. Maybe my red mist has given me rose tinted spectacles over the years
Man of the match went to Harry C who ran the midfield like a pro.
Many thanks to Neil, Rob, Val and Janice for help with the goals, all who helped at the end, and James for the line. Rob volunteered to take the kit bless his soul. |
