Training Tips

To play football well you must be fit, and the best way to improve your fitness is by regular training sessions. Most team coaches have their own training preferences and ECYFC is no different, but whatever the techniques adopted, the results will be greater power, energy, speed and skill that may give your team the edge over your opponents.

WARMING UP
All football sessions should start with some loosening up exercises to start the muscles moving. When your muscles are properly warmed up, you are less likely to get a strain injury. Gentle jogging up and down the pitch with your team mates is a good start. Once you've done a few lengths you could practice passing and receiving the ball. A few shots on goal is a great way to hone your shooting skills and gives your goalkeeper some vital practice. Your team coach will advise about techniques and routines.

STRETCHING
It's a good idea to include in your warm up, a number of exercises to S_T_R_E_T_C_H the muscles of your legs, arms and body properly. This is to ensure that your muscles are supple which will help you avoid strain injuries and the cramp, and make sure you perform at your peak. After exercise, it's a good idea to 'warm down' using the same streatching routine. Try to smoothly ease your body into these stretching exercises. Avoid sharp, sudden movements...And if you feel any pain - STOP! Your team coach will advise about techniques and routines.
